Two CIA agents with two missions are on a collision course. FDR (Chris Pine) and Tuck (Tom Hardy) are best friends and partners who are tasked with capturing criminal mastermind Heinrich (Til Schweiger) in a covert operation. They blow their cover and create a massive din instead. This is not yet war.
The struggle between both men begins when Tuck asks Lauren (Reese Witherspoon) out for a meal. She is sick and tired of love, until her friend Trish (Chelsea Handler) 'helps' her to post an advertisement on an Internet dating website. After their lunch date, she bumps into FDR at a video rental store. Apparently, that is the best place for a hook-up since he is able to predict the personality of a girl based on the movies that she is browsing. Soon, both men discover that the girl they are wooing are the same. This means war!
The first half of the film is engaging, with many laugh-out-loud jokes. The blend of romance and comedy proves to be a winner. Lauren's friend and her outrageous advice for her makes dating seem so simple. However, much is left to be desired when the plot switches to their mission on apprehending Heinrich. As each of them attempts to thwart each other's date, all realism goes out of the door. The CIA is pretty much degraded to become a lawless organisation as FDR and Tuck abuse the protocols.
Nevertheless, this is an excellent movie for relaxation as your brain takes a complete break from reality. |
